Trio of conferences planned for Autumn

Tuesday 08 September 2015

Hanson Renouf are running three conferences this Autumn between 30 September and 2 October at the Hotel de France.

The first day will focus on Trust and Regulatory matters. The second day is being organised in association with the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (IAML) and will focus on divorce and financial matters and the three-day event finishes with a conference on Children matters in conjunction with the Association of Lawyers for Children (ALC).

Tickets are available for individual days, a combination of any two, or for all three days (discounts are applied to multiple day bookings).

Living in a small jurisdiction, in the 21st Century many  people in Jersey have  transnational relationships and spend time in different countries at different times. Frequently, when a relationship breaks down, one parent wishes to leave (or come to) Jersey with the children. International child relocation is the theme of day 3 of the trio of conferences with talks from lawyers, social workers and psychologists, highlighting different angles to the topic. To add a further dimension to the day there will also be a mock trial and a mediation role play.

The second day of conferences also looks at cross-jurisdictional family law, this time in respect of financial remedies and divorce, with highly respected speakers joining us from Paris, Barcelona and Edinburgh as well as London and Leeds.

Partner and Head of Family Law, Avocate Barbara Corbett said: “We are very pleased to have such distinguished speakers at our family law conferences this year and are especially proud to be working in conjunction not just within the Association of Lawyers for Children but also, for the first time, the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. The world is getting smaller and many relationship breakdowns in Jersey have an international element, so the topics will be of particular interest to people both in Jersey and abroad.”

Trust and Regulatory topics will include: Cyber Risk, Regulatory update, Can Trustees be Witnesses without Submitting to the Jurisdiction, UK Public Register of Beneficial Ownership: The Offshore Dimension and Disclosure Requirements in Trust Litigation amongst others with speakers from Radcliffe Chambers, 1 Garden Court, BLM Law and Hanson Renouf.

Partner, Advocate Mark Renouf said: “There are a good mix of topics of interest to Jersey Trustees including the controversial UK legislation introducing a Public Register of Beneficial Ownership and Cyber risk.  With seven well known expert speakers from London including a Queen’s Counsel, speakers from law firms Withers and BLM, and five English barristers and it promises to be a very interesting day earning six CPD hours.”

Anyone wishing to attend are able to purchase tickets via Eventbrite. Any questions please contact Keeley Smyth, Events Organiser at Hanson Renouf.  Keeley can be contacted on events@hansonrenouf.com or on 767764
