The much-loved Moonlight Walk along the avenue is returning this Saturday in aid of Jersey Hospice Care, and is being proudly sponsored by local recruitment firm, Axal Leine.
The Moonlight Walk starts at 9pm on Saturday 2 July at St Brelade’s Parish Hall, with registration open from 8:30pm. There are two options for the walk; the 5k ‘Half Moon Walk’ to layby seven and back (1.5 hours) or the 10k ‘Full Moon Walk’ to La Frigate and back (2.5 hours). There will be a water station at La Frigate for the ‘Full Moon’ walkers and hot drinks and cakes to greet everyone back at the finish line at St Brelade’s Parish Hall.
Having been cancelled for two years due to the pandemic, this year’s walk will be especially poignant as it marks the 40th anniversary of Hospice caring for their first patients in 1982. As such, the walk will be 80’s themed, with participants encouraged to dress up as their favourite 80’s heroes.
The Moonlight Walk was originally organised by Hospice employees as part of their own fundraising efforts and has always been about remembering each person and family cared for by the charity and paying tribute to them.
Michelle Nelson, Deputy Director of Palliative Care Services who has worked for Hospice since 1991, said: “This year’s Moonlight Walk will be extra special for us and many of our supporters. Not only is it our first back since 2019 and the pandemic, but it is also during our 40th anniversary year. We’d love for as many people as possible to join us - to help us celebrate the amazing care provided to Islanders over the years and to support the care provided today and in the future.”
Natalie McMullen, Director at Axal Leine, said: “Having had personal experience of the care and services offered by Hospice we are delighted to be building on our support for the charity by sponsoring the Moonlight Walk. It’s set to be a very special evening and we hope many people will join in.”
Renny Gould, Director at Axal Leine, added: “We are looking forward to being part of a special event that both remembers all those who have been cared for by Hospice and raises money for the service today – a service that I have recently seen just how amazing it is, for patients and the people close to them too.”
Registration is £10 for adults, £5 for children or £25 for families (two adults, two children) and can be completed online at www.jerseyhospicecare.com/events or in person at the start line from 8:30pm. Participants are encouraged to raise a minimum of £30 through sponsorship.
