Awards from the Jersey Society of Chartered and Certified Accountants (“JSCCA”) for exceptional final examination results were presented to the winning students during the JSCCA annual dinner at the Hotel De France recently.

The winners for the highest marks in Jersey for the professional final examinations were Ella Wilkinson from Sanne Group for ACCA  (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), KPMG’s Holly Perchard for ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) and Becca Williamson for ICAS (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland) from E&Y . They were each handed their awards by the President of the JSCCA, Andrew Quinn.

The dinner also celebrated the third year of the JSCCA Bursary scheme which was awarded to two local A-level students this year. The scheme is designed to assist local students who hope to become qualified accountants after graduating from finance related degrees. Connie Le Brocq received  the main bursary of £5,000 per annum to study Business Management at Newcastle University whilst Amber Harding will receive £1,000 per annum whilst studying at Exeter University.

Over 250 people attended the dinner following a successful two day conference which took place on 10th and 11th October. A number of visiting and local speakers discussed a range of issues which affect Jersey’s accountancy profession and wider industries in the island.

There was a general consensus from the speakers that Jersey was returning to economic growth, while also debated at the event were Jersey’s ongoing efforts to build relationships with emerging markets such as China and the strategy to establish a vibrant digital economy in Jersey.

After dinner entertainment was provided by comedian and actor Greg Davies, best known as ‘Mr Gilbert’ in The Inbetweeners and who has also appeared on numerous TV shows including Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Live at the Apollo, Mock the Week and 8 Out Of 10 Cats.

Andrew Quinn, President of the JSCCA, commented:

‘This year’s event was once again hugely successful, and as always it is an honour to be able to present awards to young hard working members of the profession. The amount of time, effort and study put in by all those working towards becoming qualified accountants is phenomenal so these examination successes really are exceptional.

The accountancy profession is constantly trying to be more proactive in shaping the island’s future, whether that’s in the finance, tourism, retail or digital sectors, so to hear from our expert speakers that Jersey is optimistic and ready to capitalise on new opportunities in all these areas was very welcome news indeed.’

Established in 1974, the JSCCA promotes and supports the accountancy profession in Jersey and has over 650 members from across different accountancy bodies. For more information about the JSCCA, please visit www.jscca.org.
