A Pop-up Market designed to support self-employed entrepreneurs will return to Jersey Central Market this Friday 5 August. The one day event which was successfully launched in May gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to showcase their business with the help of Back to Work.

Those participating have been working with specialist self-employment advisors within the Social Security Department’s Back to Work team to develop their businesses sufficiently to provide them with profitable employment. Many of them have benefited from business development training designed to help them maximise their ideas and make sure their enterprises are profitable and sustainable. This training includes topics such as marketing and social media, cash flow, pricing and business planning.

Friday’s event will see a diverse and exciting range of businesses taking part: a cycle shop owner, a company specialising in jewellery, a provider of unique gift sets, a company that makes handmade felt children’s toys, a cake baker, a car parts specialist, a mobile beautician, a psychotherapist, a nutritionist and a driving instructor.

Deputy Graham Truscott, the Social Security Assistant Minister, commented: “We were delighted with the support we received from the Jersey public when we first ran this event back in May. It proved to be a valuable learning experience for all of those entrepreneurs that were showcasing their business ventures.

“As a community it’s important to support home-grown businesses, and events such as this can really help a start-up business to get off the ground and thrive in Jersey. Once again we are very grateful to the Central Market for its help and support setting up this exciting event.”
