Appleby’s seminar entitled “Directors – Do you know your duties?” was held on 15 November at the Old Government House Hotel, St Peter Port, Guernsey. The seminar was chaired by Jeremy Le Tissier, Practice Group Head and Partner - Litigation & Insolvency and included discussons by Anthony Williams, a member of Appleby’s Lititgation & Insolvency group, and Matthew Wrigley and Chet Pohl, members of Appleby’s Corporate & Commercial Funds team.

The seminar which attracted over 60 attendess was kicked off by key note speaker, Ben Shaw from Erskine Chambers, who covered his involvement in recent UK cases. This was followed by a panel session that considered the current law of directors’ duties in Guernsey, and how Appleby considers that cases in other developed jurisdictions may potentially impact the development of the law in Guernsey including the modern evolution of a Director’s role, particularly in the context of financial reporting obligations.
Jeremy Le Tissier commented “We had a great turn out to the seminar this morning which is a reflection of the need of directors’ to be kept abreast of the changing nature of directors’ duties across the globe. It is important that Directors here in Guernsey are kept well-informed of global legal trends in all key financial markets and the implications for how Boards conduct themselves in the modern world.”
