Almost 70 people visited Maritime House and boats on the pontoons for Coastguard open day on Sunday. The Open Day gave people an opportunity to see behind the scenes and get a better understanding of the work and services carried out by the team and our search and rescue partners.

As well as visiting VTS and Coastguard, people could get up close to search and rescue assets from Jersey Lifeboat Association, RNLI, States of Jersey Fire Service and Air Rescue Drone Team, as well as one of the Pilot Boats.

Luke de la Haye, Watch Officer at Jersey Coastguard, organised the event. He said, 'It was great to see the Maritime Operations Centre so full on Sunday, and whenever I had a chance to look out of the window, the pontoons looked busy. There was a range of people interested in finding out more about what we do. I even met the family of someone who had fallen ill on board a vessel that I was involved with returning to shore, which was amazing. All the feedback we received was positive.'

Some comments from visitors:

"Great experience. Loved hearing about all the different types of drones."

"Thank you for sharing your valuable time and informing us about your incredible work."

"Very interesting, thanks so much!"

"Great to meet you. Many thanks for such an interesting visit."
