There are now just a few days to go until this year’s Guernsey De Putron Challenge, the big annual inter school quiz, kicks off. There are now just a few days to go until this year’s Guernsey De Putron Challenge, the big annual inter school quiz, kicks off.

Returning to the island for the seventh consecutive year, this University Challenge-style event takes place on Monday [4 November] and will now feature three year groups rather than just two: Post 16, Year 8 and Year 6.

The teams will be tested on everything from general knowledge, science, maths and nature to Channel Island history, culture, history and sport.

Beechwood, Blanchelande College, Forest Primary, Hautes Capelles, La Houguette, La Mare de Carteret, Melrose, Notre Dame du Rosaire, St Andrew’s and Vauvert will all compete for the inaugural Year 6 title.

The Year 8 event will set Blanchelande College, Elizabeth College, Ladies’ College, La Mare de Carteret, Les Beaucamps High School and St Sampson’s High School against each other while the Post 16 event will see two teams from both Ladies’ College and Elizabeth College battle for the top title.

The Guernsey event takes place at St James Concert and Assembly Hall and will be followed a week later by the fourth Jersey De Putron Challenge on 11 November at the Hotel de France.  The event culminates in an inter-island showdown at Jersey’s Radisson Blu Hotel on 18 November.

Hayley de Putron, trustee of the Ana Leaf Foundation and founder of the De Putron Challenge said that she hopes teams will get a lot of support, particularly the younger ones.

“It makes such a difference.  It really helps to lift their morale and create an electric atmosphere.  With the welcome addition of the Year 6 students, this year’s event promises to be the liveliest yet.

“We recognise that the energy from the audience is crucial to the success of the competition and want to make it clear that the family, friends and fellow students of those competing are very welcome to come along and help propel their teams to glory,” she said.

Supporters are also being asked to bring along home-made banners to show their support, with a prize on offer for the most imaginative, colourful and original.

For those who can’t attend the event in person, a live stream of the inter-island final on 18 November will be available online at http://www.delta-av.com/deputronchallenge.

Regular social media updates on the De Putron Challenge will be available, including live tweeting at the event: Follow @DePChallenge or #DePutronChallenge on Twitter or search for ‘De Putron Challenge’ on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/De-Putron-Challenge/172677649487583
