Five employees from Deloitte recently spent a day volunteering to help clear an overgrown and unused garden of a residential Mind Jersey property.

The Impact Day, arranged by Sarah Sandiford, Associate Director at Deloitte, is part of the firm's ongoing three-year commitment to the mental health charity and falls under their One Million Futures initiative.

The day saw the volunteers cutting back excessive growth and generally getting their hands dirty while revitalising the area.

Speaking of the day, Sarah Sandiford says; ‘This gardening day is just one of a few activities we have coming up to help our charity partner, Mind Jersey.

‘Through hard work and determination, I’m proud to say that the small team transformed the garden. The best moment of the day was when one of the tenants came out to offer us water and talked about the memorial planters for his family that we were able to revive.

‘Given his need for residential support from Mind, we were touched he came out and to speak with us.

‘The volunteer team included our young Summer Vacation Scheme (SVS) interns - they have set a great example for others, and it was a good opportunity for Deloitte to demonstrate how businesses contribute to the communities within which they operate.’

James Le Feuvre, Executive Director of Mind Jersey, concludes; ‘We were delighted when the team from Deloitte volunteered to give the garden at one of our properties a significant upgrade.

‘This involved cutting back and removing the excessive growth and generally improving the amenity that our residents enjoy.

‘We are very grateful for the support that Deloitte’s continues to bring, as part of our partnership, and were impressed with the willingness of everyone to get stuck in and grubby.’

In addition to one Impact Day, everyone at Deloitte is allowed and encouraged to spend three and a half hours of their work time per month volunteering for the firm’s charity partner.
