Statistically, 74% of the population support charities in their lifetime, yet less than 7% of people include a charity in their will. Brig-y-Don Children’s Charity has teamed up with local law firm Viberts in an effort to encourage more people to consider doing this.
In support of legacy week (6th-12th November) in Jersey, Brig-y-Don Children’s Charity has sent letters out to islanders with a teabag enclosed, asking them to think about leaving something to charity in their will and enabling Islanders to talk about this important topic over a cuppa.
Steve Harvey, Chief Executive of Brig-y-Don Children’s Charity revealed:
“It’s a common myth that only the rich and famous leave money to charity when they die. The reality is that without gifts left in wills by ordinary people, many charities simply couldn’t exist. That’s why, if we all leave some money to charity as well as our family in our wills, we can make such a huge difference.”
As well as the incentive of a cup of tea, local law firm Viberts will be offering a reduced fee for their will-writing services for any instructions made during legacy week. Viberts will also be donating £50 directly to Brig-y-Don Children’s Charity for every will made a result of this offer.
Zoe Blomfield, Personal Law Partner at Viberts hopes that this initiative will encourage islanders to leave a gift to Brig-y-Don Children’s Charity in their will:
“Leaving a legacy gift to Brig-y-Don Children’s Charity will ensure that this important local charity will still be there for vulnerable Jersey children and young people for many years to come. Whether it’s somebody making their first will or a change to an existing one, any donations will help immeasurably.”
