Nearly 30 high-profile Islanders attended an event on Friday 1 April to find out more about the work of Girlguiding in Jersey.
Guests, including the Lieutenant Governor, Lady Dalton, and the Bailiff Girlguiding leaders from Jersey and the UK, and listened to talks on the impact that Girlguiding has on girls – and leaders – in the Island.
Girlguiding is the UK’s leading charity for girls, and gives girls an opportunity to develop and grow. In Jersey, dozens of leaders support girls hundreds of girls aged 5-18 by providing weekly meetings, adventures, and development opportunities.
The VIP event on Friday was hosted as part of the South West Region Roadshow, a tri-annual event which visits each area of the Region to promote the opportunities Girlguiding provides for volunteers and for girls.
Region Commissioner, Laura Cottey, and her team visited Jersey to deliver the weekend. It is the first Region Roadshow that has taken place since COVID-19.
Friday’s event was followed by a family event at Durrell on Saturday 2 April. 20 girls and their families were offered discounted tickets to visit Durrell and were also able to learn more about the work of Girlguiding.
Helen Barette, Girlguiding Island Commissioner for Jersey, said: “It was fantastic to have the Girlguiding Southwest England team here for the weekend to showcase all the things that Girlguiding is doing for young women on the Island.”
Laura Cottey, Chief Commissioner for Girlguiding Southwest England, said: “It was incredible to spend time with Girlguiding Jersey volunteers, young members, and their families this weekend.
“We heard inspiring stories of the difference Girlguiding volunteers make to the lives of girls and young women in Jersey from providing sleepovers in the library to taking part in life-changing international trips.”
