Super League pro athlete and current champion Richard Murray, says being the best you can be is all about balance and building in time-out to relax and have fun to ensure you maintain your wellbeing.

The top-ranked triathlete was commenting at a special event run by RBC Super League Triathlon (SLT) Official Sponsor, Mourant, where Murray and female pro, Sarah Alexander,  shared insights on their preparation, training regimes and overcoming some of the challenges in competing at the top of their fields of sport.

Mourant Senior Associate and Wellbeing Group Team Member, Carly McIver, quizzed Richard and Sarah about their experiences and how they maintain physical and mental wellbeing in the lead up to and during the Super League weekend - which took place on 28-30 September in Jersey.

Global offshore law and governance services firm, Mourant, announced its five year sponsorship of the Super League Triathlon earlier this year, which debuted last year with the top 50 professional male and female athletes in the world and over 10,000 spectators enjoying the action over the weekend.

Mourant Jersey Managing Partner, Daniel Birtwistle, said: "We are very grateful to Richard and Sarah taking the time to come in and speak with our Jersey team about what SLT means to them. We believe that SLT represents so much more than just sportsmanship and being the best you can be, it represents innovation, community, its team spirit by bringing diverse groups and individuals together to compete. It also promotes health and wellbeing through sport, something that is extremely important to us as a firm."

Richard Murray is a South African triathlete and has been one of the world’s top triathletes for the last five years winning multiple international titles. Sarah Alexander has raced since 2011 and this year represents a new chapter in her athletic career with a new coach, increased training and new race distances.

Richard Murray, said: The one thing I focus on is having a good balance. If you do too much of one thing you will eventually burn out doing it. It's good to feed in some fun every now and again, to eat whatever we feel like and to do some of the touristy things. Having that balance is really important because even though we travel across the world, you become fixed in a routine. When we arrived in Jersey, we did a loop cycle around the island and got to see some of the coves which are quite special for us, we really enjoyed it."

Daniel Birtwistle added: "At Mourant, we encourage good physical and mental health in the workplace because it is crucial to ensure happiness and productivity. We know this is just as important for everyone competing in this incredible challenge coming up this weekend."

The Super League Triathlon Championship Series sets the gold standard of professional triathlon racing and is the most prestigious and valuable series for every triathlete. With the biggest TV and content distribution in the history of endurance sport, and the largest international prize purse in triathlon racing, this is the one series every athlete aspires to qualify for and complete.
