JCG is very pleased to be featured in the Sunday Times Parent Power guide to the UK's top schools.
JCG was ranked the top school in the Channel Islands, 9th in the Southwest and 109th nationally.
This year’s Parent Power guide found that girls-only schools appeared to have fared better in the wake of the pandemic with higher academic rankings.
The guide also revealed how many leading girls-only schools are developing their wellbeing provision and activities amidst growing concerns about the impact the pandemic over children’s mental health.
JCG’s work in that area was recently recognised with the Wellbeing Award for Schools (WAS), the national gold standard for wellbeing in schools. The award recognises schools that offer the highest quality provision and support for mental health and wellbeing.
Recent wellbeing initiatives at the College have included the creation of a standalone Wellbeing policy to support the College community.
In the summer, we held a Wellbeing consultation evening for parents and in September, Dr William Bird, a leading expert on health and wellbeing, presented the physiological underpinnings of wellbeing to all staff. This was then adapted by our Head Girl and presented to our student in assemblies.
We have also expanded the wellbeing infrastructure within the College to include a sensory room and a multi-faith prayer space.
Our Principal, Carl Howarth, commented: “Each day I and my colleagues are inspired by our students' character, their confidence and determination, their curiosity and reflection, their integrity and courage and their community awareness and engagement. These personal values make for a deeply stimulating and, at the same time, compassionate and inspiring place to be. We are delighted that the accomplishments of our very special community have been acknowledged by the Sunday Times.”
