Talking about the event and the work of the Charity in Jersey, spokesperson for the Jersey Friends of Anthony Nolan (the ‘Jersey Friends’), Kate Baigent, said: “We are delighted and grateful that the Jersey Petanque Club have been so supportive of the Jersey Friends, by allowing us to use their facilities at Quennevais for our first public event of the year.

"The outdoor area at the Club gives us the flexibility and space for people to feel comfortable, and we are encouraging players to come along on Sunday 31 July at 1.45pm for a 2.00pm start.

"There is no need to book, people can just turn up! Anyone can play - regular players and complete beginners are all welcome. For £6.00 a head they get 2 games, tea and delicious cake. There are additional cakes on sale plus a raffle.

"Like so many charities, fundraising has been extremely challenging in the last couple of years; but the needs of charities haven’t changed. For someone with blood cancer or a blood disorder, a stem cell transplant from a matching donor could be their best hope of a full recovery. We need to keep on raising awareness of that and encouraging people to sign up to the Register of Stem Cell donors. By doing so, anyone could - literally - be a match and save a life.

"Due to the pandemic, Petanque was the only event the local branch of the Charity was able to hold at all in 2021. Despite the setbacks, this year we held a successful Raffle earlier in the year and are looking forward to the Petanque on 31 July. We also hope to hold some ‘donor recruitment’ events later in the year - where we give information to people and encourage them to sign up to the Register. We are also planning on an exciting initiative for 2023 involving the Island’s two castles, which is being kindly supported by our Charity Partner ROK Construction.

"We are so grateful for the support we have from the general public and are determined both to continue our fundraising work for the Charity and to sign more people up to the Register.
