It's back. After a successful launch last year, the Wetwheels Jersey True Grit Challenge is on for a second year, enticing hardy Islanders to test their mettle around a specially constructed course at Ronez Quarry, St John.
The Challenge, supported by Ravenscroft as main sponsor, along with Carey Olsen, Seapower Marine and Ronez, will take place on Sunday 17 October and is open to individuals and teams (all participants must be over 18 years of age).
Set in a unique and stunning location, the physical but fun 4.3km route involves tough terrain and challenging climbs, and runners can choose a course with or without obstacles. The event raises funds and awareness for Wetwheels Jersey, a registered charity that provides the opportunity for all disabled people, including those with profound and complex disabilities, to access the sea in a safe, stimulating and rewarding way on board a specially built, fully accessible powerboat.
Wetwheels Jersey Operations Director Dina Rogan said, "The 2020 event was a huge success both for the participants and Wetwheels. As with most charities the last year has been challenging from both a fundraising and operational standpoint but we have managed to adapt and maintain our service, which is completely free to all users.
"True Grit is our flagship fundraising event, so we are delighted to be able to run it again this year. I have to thank our sponsors Ravenscroft, Carey Olsen and Seapower Marine, for making it possible, Ronez for their generosity and ingenuity in creating the course, 3D Events and Race Nation for helping to manage it, and of course all the participants who put themselves through such a gruelling challenge to help raise awareness and funds for Wetwheels."
Haydn Taylor, managing director of Ravenscroft in Jersey, said Ravenscroft was looking forward to being involved again: "It was a fantastic event last year and after so many sporting challenges had been forced to go virtual, it was clear that people enjoyed taking part and competing. This is a unique event with a course like no other and Ravenscroft is delighted that we can help make it happen. We hope a record number of people sign up and raise money for a charity which is making an enormous difference to those it supports."
Entry is open to individuals and teams of up to three runners with entry fees as follows:
Run only - Solo £25
Obstacle - Solo £45
Obstacle - Team of 3 £127.50
