Jersey’s young musicians will have a VIP in the audience at their concerts in future.

The Island’s Lieutenant Governor Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton has agreed to become a Patron of the Friends of Jersey Youth Music.

The Friends of Jersey Youth Music (FoJYM) was set up to support the activities of Jersey Music Service in its efforts to teach, promote and encourage young Islanders in their pursuit of music and to ensure every child on the Island is given the opportunity to nurture their musical talent.

The group raises money to buy new instruments, new music and to help fund musical tours off Island.

Mike Stock, Chairman of the Friends of Jersey Youth Music, said: “We are absolutely honoured and thrilled that Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton has accepted our invitation to become Patron for the duration of his tenure as Jersey’s Lieutenant Governor.”

Dr Graham Cox, Principle of JMS, said: “We’re committed to providing high quality music making opportunities for all children and young people in Jersey and the continued support of the Friends of Jersey Youth Music is instrumental in enabling us to do just that.”

“It’s fantastic to hear that the Lieutenant Governor has become the Patron and we look forward to welcoming him to our concerts and showing both him and Lady Dalton just how talented our young musicians are here in Jersey.”
