“Jersey’s Greatest Coffee Morning 2013”, which took place from Monday 23 to Sunday 29 September, was once again a resounding success according to organisers Macmillan Cancer Support (Jersey) and main sponsors of the initiative C5 Alliance Group.

Over 100 local organisations, businesses and community groups hosted charity coffee mornings and dress down days in an effort to raise both awareness and funds for Macmillan Jersey’s work at a local level. The initiative saw double the amount of participating organisations compared to last year’s and has raised in excess of £27,000 so far, with funds continuing to come in.
Brian Frith, Chairman of Macmillan Cancer Support (Jersey) said the charity was astounded by the level of support.
‘Jersey has managed to exceed our expectations for another year and made this event a remarkable success. The money raised will help islanders directly and as always with this event a huge amount of awareness has been created, for a very important cause.
‘Along with corporate coffee mornings, cake sales and dress down days, we saw a number of individuals, Parish Halls and schools taking part. There were make-overs and a raffle at Boots, a coffee tasting session at De Gruchy’s, directors at Barclays selling tea and cakes and Island Medical Centre doctors rowing on a rowing machine in their reception. It was moving to see the island engage with the initiative so enthusiastically,’ he said.
A number of other initiatives also took place during the week including an art exhibition in St Brelade, a 10km run and a piano recital at Chateaux Vermont.
Jane Gregory, Head of Marketing and Communications at C5 Alliance Group said she was humbled by the enthusiasm and willingness of everyone who took part.
“Everybody put so much energy in, whether baking cakes or generously donating time and money. It was encouraging how many individuals hosted events in their own homes – a friend of mine raised £500 alone!
“I was also impressed by the staff at Club Carrefour in St Lawrence, who provided cakes and coffee all week and donated their time and gifts to two massive hampers which were raffled off raising more than £600!” she said.
As well as sponsoring the event across the island, C5 Alliance Group held its own coffee morning at its Anley Street offices serving up branded cappuccinos. Staff members also took to the streets of St Helier with some of the 250 collection buckets and tins that were in circulation.
‘We are very pleased to continue our support for Macmillan Jersey; watching the initiative grow has been immensely rewarding. It is comforting to know that the funds raised will help Macmillan Jersey to continue the brilliant work they do locally – work that is invaluable to patients, friends and families dealing with cancer.’ said Rob Leader, Managing Director of C5 Alliance Group.
‘We deliver a monthly package of tea and coffee to a selection of clients, in place of a Christmas present, so the idea to sponsor this event was particularly apt and we will continue to show support in the coming years,’ he said.
All proceeds from the coffee mornings go towards ensuring high quality and comprehensive services are available to people affected by cancer in Jersey. Planning is already underway for a 2014 event, which will take place next September.
