Ogier's property practice continues to be in a league of its own, having retained its first place among Jersey law firms in a league table published by Chambers UK.
Ogier has been placed in a tier of its own by leading legal commentator Chambers and Partners, which published its new 2017 guide this week (2 November).
The market-leading property team regularly advises on commercial and residential development, financing and transactional work with a client roster that includes private individuals and corporations.
"The service they've given us has been first class, and they have strength across the property and finance side. They're my firm of choice, the one I would pick on first", says one client interviewed by the guide, which was launched today, 2 November.
"They've got a great team, with strength in depth. They have a great knowledge and great connections" says another.
Ogier's Property group head Jonathan Hughes said: “While recognition of our technical legal excellence is obviously very important to us, I am particularly pleased to see that our team's stand-out, first-class client service has put us in a tier of our own."
Jonathan is commended for "going the extra mile" for clients, who characterise him as "dynamic and charismatic". Chambers says he 'offers a wealth of knowledge in development and financing matters".
Partner Julie Melia advises on both commercial and residential transactional issues, alongside planning and development matters. Chambers sources describe her as "tenacious and very commercially minded".
Chris Renouf offers a wealth of experience in acquisitions, leases and real estate funding. He acts as a consultant to the firm, and is described as an "extremely good lawyer" by commentators.
Managing associate Katharine Marshall impresses with her "technical knowledge, client service, effectiveness and commercial awareness". She has a broad practice encompassing residential development, commercial leasing and property finance.
Meanwhile, Guernsey property partner Martyn Baudains, who launched Ogier's Guernsey property team in 2016, is described by peers as intelligent and very easy to do business with", says Chambers UK 2017.
Ogier’s property team acts for buyers, sellers, developers, funders, landlords and tenants providing advice on the purchase, development, sale and lease of commercial and residential properties located in Jersey.
It regularly works on the largest and most complex commercial property transactions in Jersey including, recently, advising Jersey Gas in relation to its participation in the third-party planning appeal of its Tunnel Street site redevelopment project and assisting Jersey Airport in connection with pre-let and lease negotiations, including the development of a £7 million new cargo centre.
