Rare sponsorship opportunities at the lions 2019 swimarathon

For the first time for more than a decade the Lions Club of Jersey does not have a single and exclusive sponsor for its annual Swimarathon, a very successful co-operation with RBC Wealth Management having been concluded after an unprecedented 12 years.

This situation offers local businesses and organisations an unusual opportunity – sponsorship of the laps swum on each one of the days of the Island’s longest running and most successful fundraising event - from Wednesday to Sunday 6 to 10 March inclusive, at Les Quennevais Pool.

Each year around 480 teams comprising circa 4,000 swimmers of all ages take part in the event – 96 teams each day swimming on average a total of between five and six thousand laps. This year sponsorship of each day’s swimming is available at 50p per lap, capped at £2,500.

For potential sponsors the annual Lions Swimarathon – this year’s event is the 47th- provides the ideal platform for brand awareness, raising the profile of the Sponsor’s commitment to the community with extensive opportunities for significant staff involvement before, during and after the event plus client and CSR opportunities. On their day, sponsors will receive identification on the front and a full page advertisement on the back cover of the Swimarathon daily bulletin, banners poolside; promotional material included in the packs given to the teams swimming on the day and publicity in all appropriate Lions media releases and publications.

Lion Peter Tabb, speaking for the Lions Swimarathon organising committee, says: “Thanks to our long and very successful association with RBC Wealth Management for the past 12 years, we have not had an opportunity like this to allow other organisations to take this sort of active participation of promoting themselves and allying themselves with this great community event.”

Since the first Lions Swimarathon in 1972, the event has raised more than £3.5 million, most of which has been spent on good causes in the Island with only a very small proportion being donated Lions Clubs International  projects overseas.

Each year the Lions choose a specific number of beneficiaries with a linking theme and this year the Lions Club have chosen as  principal beneficiaries - Brighter Futures, Caring Cooks, the Jersey Centre for Separated Families, Mind Jersey and Silkworth Lodge. Each charity will receive up to £10,000 from the funds raised. The Lions will also be donating a further up to £10,000 to a ‘People’s Choice’, the charity nominated by a majority of the participating teams, plus committing at least up to a further £50,000 to community service activities in the Island.

The 2019 Swimarathon takes place at Les Quennevais Pool on Wednesday to Sunday 6 to 10 March.
