Jersey Post is liaising with Royal Mail and other delivery partners to make plans to ensure islanders suffer minimal disruption if a planned workers’ strike goes ahead. Plans for the national strike at Royal Mail were announced by the main postal union on 17th October. The Communication Workers Union confirmed that workers would go on national 24 hour strike on 4th November, after polling its members.

Plans for the national strike at Royal Mail were announced by the main postal union on 17th October. The Communication Workers Union confirmed that workers would go on national 24 hour strike on 4th November, after polling its members.
Jersey Post has been aware of the possibility of strike action for some time and has been working to put in place a range of contingency plans. All post from Jersey to the UK goes to Royal Mail as our partner network.
Alternative arrangements that don’t rely on Royal Mail are being explored to ensure all mail from the Jersey Post network gets to the Royal Mail depots. Royal Mail has made assurances that they are putting exceptional procedures in place so that UK-bound Special Delivery consignments will continue to be despatched on a daily basis.
Jersey Post is also working to get parcels delivered by other agents, where possible, and for international parcels to bypass Royal Mail to get to the continent directly from Jersey. International courier services will not be affected by any strike action.
Jersey Post hopes that both sides can find a resolution to avoid the action progressing and are frequently liaising with official contacts at Royal Mail to keep up to date as the union’s plans develop. Regular updates will be made through the Jersey Post website and social media channels to make information public as it’s received. Work will also be ongoing to find more alternatives routes.
Andy Jehan, Postal Operations Director at Jersey Post, said ‘We are doing all we can to ensure islanders are inconvenienced as little as possible. Extra resource is being allocated to be best prepared for every eventuality and various flexible contingency plans are being put in place. We strongly recommend Islanders post early, where possible, to avoid delays that might result from industrial action. There is still time for the situation to be resolved and the strike to be called off, and this remains our hope.’
