Jersey Mencap’s South Coast Charity Challenge walk was a sell-out last weekend as over 500 walkers joined their annual fundraising event.
Participants aged 8 years and up took on the challenge which has so far raised a fantastic £24,000 for the charity’s projects supporting people with a Learning Disability. Jersey Mencap sessions run throughout the week at various locations including the Philip Mourant Centre, a Pond Site, the Library, Harbour Gallery, and Oakfield Sports Centre. The Radisson Waterfront Hotel also hosts their well-attended dinner disco events which are a popular feature on the calendar.
As part of the challenge a shorter, accessible route option is popular amongst members and supporters. This facilitated people walking a 4-mile route from Les Jardins de la Mer. This accessible route option has grown in popularity over the years and means everyone can get involved!
Sunday’s weather proved the perfect walking day as people made their way from La Rocque to Corbiere taking in all the views that the beautiful South Coast offers. The charity would like to thank sponsors ARC (Asset Risk Consultants), Libertybus and Jersey Water for helping them deliver the event along with help from St Johns Ambulance, the Land Rover Owners club, Grouville Honorary Police, Sandpiper and the Channel Islands Cooperative. Special thanks to the 24 volunteers who helped keep walkers safe!
Jersey Mencap were delighted at the response this year and encourage everyone to plan ahead and take advantage of the early bird ticket rate for the 2025! Details can be found on the website: www.jerseymencap.org
John, Hutchin’s, Chair extends his thanks to everyone who took part, fundraised, and made the day a success “It’s an important fundraiser for us but also a great opportunity for walkers take on a personal challenge with the sense of achievement it offers”.
