Every Child Our Future is thrilled to announce the launch of its innovative Story Trail at Howard Davis Park on Thursday 26 September.
The inaugural event will feature Michael Rosen’s beloved children’s book, ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt,’ to inspire families to engage in both literacy and the great outdoors.
The Story Trail is a permanent installation designed to promote reading, physical activity, and family interaction within a natural setting. Located along a scenic pathway in Howard Davis Park, the trail consists of twenty display frames showing the book, page by page. The stories featured on the displays will be changed every few weeks, ensuring that children always have something new and exciting to explore.
This project is generously supported by the Rotary Club of Jersey, as part of their Centenary Awards, and PWC, who continues their ongoing commitment to the charity through their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
“We’re delighted to launch this new initiative that combines the joy of reading with the beauty of the outdoors,” said Emma Firth, Programme Manager at Every Child Our Future. “The Story Trail is an innovative way to bring families together, fostering both literacy and physical activity in a fun and engaging manner.”
Steve Landick from Parks and Gardens expressed his support for the initiative, stating, “We are very supportive of this initiative as it encourages children to explore the park, learn, and enjoy the natural surroundings.”
Nicola Mulliner, Head of Childcare and Early Years Services (CEYS) also expressed support.
“The Childcare and Early Years team are delighted to support such an exciting, family friendly literacy initiative. To follow an engaging book trail whilst being immersed in the natural environment is such an interactive way for children to learn and foster a love of literature. The early years of a child’s life are so important and to be able to offer children magical experiences like this will create lasting memories and a lifelong love of learning.”
