The founder of This is EPIC has said the lessons learnt from a board readiness programme will help with the charity’s future.
Louise Smith was chosen by the Guernsey Community Foundation to take a free place provided by the GTA University Centre on the Institute of Directors Introductory Certificate in Board Readiness.
The course includes a two day workshop which brings to life key issues that boardrooms face today and provides the necessary skills, knowledge and support to be a success, driving forward the future of the business being represented and further training on the mindset required to be a director.
‘Having been a director of This Is EPIC for a number of years, many of the decisions that had been made had been on a reactive basis, but this course has helped to provide a better understanding of management tools that can be useful in helping us to develop the future strategy for This Is EPIC,’ said Mrs Smith.
‘This course has benefited myself and also This Is EPIC as the charity is growing and developing rapidly, and it is key for me to be able to make educated decisions that will affect the future of the charity both on Guernsey and with our international projects.’
Mrs Smith was the second person to be awarded a charitable place on the course. Earlier this year, GSPCA manager Steve Byrne completed the course which he said was invaluable.
