Paul Mylrea, the current director of communications at the University of Cambridge and previously the BBC’s director of communications, will be joining the roster of expert industry speakers at this year’s inaugural Channel Islands PR Forum.
The half-day event, organised by the Channel Islands Group of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR), is being held on 24 September in Guernsey and will feature a diverse line-up of visiting speakers from digital, international and academic public relations practice.
Paul will deliver a keynote talk titled ‘Building trust with leaders - the key to success in PR’ highlighting why PR should be embraced by senior business executives and how PR professionals can get the buy-in from business leaders. During his talk Paul will draw on the experiences of his varied career, including his current role managing the global reputation of one of the world’s leading universities.
Prior to joining the University of Cambridge, Paul worked in senior communications posts for various UK public sector bodies including Transport for London (where he led the communications response to the 7 July bombings and subsequently won a CIPR crisis communications award), the Department for International Development and the BBC, where he became Director of Communications in 2011 and subsequently Director of Public Affairs. He is also a past president and fellow of the CIPR.
Adam Riddell, Chair of the CIPR Channel Islands Group, said: “Having Paul on our line-up is a great coup for our first ever PR Forum in the Channel Islands. His experience, particularly his work at the BBC and 20 years in journalism before making the move to public relations, makes him extremely well-equipped to inform and inspire local practitioners about what is always a key issue – ensuring high quality PR is understood and valued at senior business level.
“Paul will make a great addition to the existing high calibre list of speakers and we’re excited about bringing the PR and communications community together in the islands to discuss the major issues impacting our industry’s future.”
The ‘Channel Islands PR Forum 2015: Future Reputations’ conference will also feature talks from current CIPR President Sarah Pinch, Principal of Maclaine Communications Eva Maclaine, consultant, researcher and lecturer Dr Barbara Gibson and visiting professor at Henley Business School and Cardiff University JOMEC, Dr Jon White. There will also be a panel session featuring Stuart Bruce (Principal of Stuart Bruce Associates), Steve Dunne (CEO of Digital Drums) and Andrew Bruce Smith (Managing Director of Escherman) debating the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly evolving digital communications environment.
The event takes place at the i2 offices in St Peter Port, Guernsey from 12.30pm-5pm on 24September.
