A Guernsey-focused, internationally recognised qualification has been devised for local fund administrators.
The qualification – the first to reflect local regulation and administration practices – is provided by the GTA University Centre, in conjunction with training specialists, CLT International.
The certificate was spearheaded by the vice chairman of the Guernsey Investment Fund Association, Paul Smith, in partnership with the GTA. He said that the industry had been conscious for a long time for the need for an internationally recognised local fund administration qualification.
‘Implementing a funds administration qualification has been talked about for a long time and there have been various initiatives to try and get it off the ground. These have all floundered at the early stages, because it is a big piece of work bringing together a qualification that is internationally recognised and yet relevant to local industry regulations. This time the GTA has been able to successfully liaise with the various parties required to bring all the elements we have asked for into one qualification,’ said Mr Smith.
‘Such a qualification can also be used for people who have been working in other sectors, such as fiduciary, wanting to switch to fund administration, or for people coming back to work after having had time off.’
Paula Williams, programme manager at the GTA, said the qualification had been structured to reflect the views and needs of the industry at a reasonable cost.
‘With the GTA being closer to industry and more consultative we have been able to respond to and meet the specified requirements of the funds industry. We have been able to get ‘buy in’ for this qualification by working closely with local experts and by bringing a number of different parties together, to work on this training piece. The educational expertise that the GTA provided has helped to guide the process and to ensure that what is being delivered is relevant and a value added offering for Guernsey.’
The course begins on 18 October and there a limited number of spaces left. For more information, contact Paula Williams at the GTA on 732861.
