This month’s try-a-duathlon, sponsored by Trust Corporation International, will raise funds for Guernsey Mind.
The event is part of Get Fit Guernsey’s series which encourages people to try different sporting activities and raised £880 for Bowel Cancer Guernsey with its try-a-trail run held in February.
The duathlon consists of a two mile run, an eight and a half mile cycle ride and a further mile of running and is open to novices who want to give the event a go. A high-end road bike is not necessary to take part in the event and no other specialist equipment is required.
Both men and women over the age of 14 can enter the event and are able to register online.
Maddy Diligent, owner of Get Fit Guernsey, said: “We elected to support Guernsey Mind with our try-a-duathlon as we believe that a healthy body can help contribute towards a healthy mind.
“Taking on physical challenges can help people to build confidence and self-belief as well as fitness levels and one of the great satisfactions of organising these events is seeing people achieve things they never thought they could.”
The support of Guernsey Mind ties in with Trust Corporation International’s mental health awareness week, during which representatives from the charity will speak to Trust Corporation staff about mental health in the workplace.
Amit Taylor, group managing director at Trust Corporation International, said: “Trust Corporation takes health and wellbeing very seriously and raising awareness of these issues among our staff is a part of that.
“Guernsey Mind is a very deserving local charity and we’re pleased that we’ve been able to partner with them for training and fundraising.”
