Athletes heading to the Island Games in Sweden are being urged to check if their insurance actually covers them to take part.
The advice from Rossborough Insurance comes as the broker, which operates in Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man, has received a number of enquiries about cover for sportsmen and women ahead of the Gotland Games in June.
‘We want all the athletes to be focused on going for gold, and not be worried about whether their insurance will cover them. Some standard travel policies don’t cover people if they take part in competitive sports, however, specialist cover is available for groups or individuals,’ said Ian Stewart, managing director of Rossborough Guernsey.
‘We’d recommend that athletes and teams check they have the right insurance policies in place before travelling to Gotland. With the countdown to the Island Games now firmly underway, Rossborough Insurance also wishes everyone heading to Gotland the very best of luck.’
Dozens of athletes will be travelling to Gotland from Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man to take part in the Island Games between 24 and 30 June. Overall, teams from 24 islands will be competing for medals in a range of sporting disciplines from athletics, football, cycling, golf and archery.
