Locate Guernsey, the States of Guernsey government initiative to facilitate the relocation of businesses and individuals to the island, held its Guernsey Showcase event at the highest events space in London; the Leadenhall Building, in the heart of the City of London.

With an international audience of more than 200 in attendance at the building also known as ‘The Cheesegrater’, the event promoted Guernsey as an outstanding relocation destination for businesses and individuals. The event, which took place on Friday 14th October, had considerable local support from the island business community with 19 Guernsey businesses hosting tables with key contacts of their own.

The event highlighted the many reasons why the island is an excellent relocation destination, with David Ummels, the Managing Director of Astin Capital Management who moved to Guernsey last year, as the keynote speaker.

Other speeches were delivered by the Chief Minister, Gavin St Pier and the Head of Locate Guernsey, Richard Le Tocq.

Following this, guests enjoyed a panel discussion exploring the various advantages of relocating to Guernsey. The panelists were Mike Allen of Ascot Barclay Group, Simon Davies of The 1882 Group, Andrew Haining of Balmuir Partners and Jo Huxtable of Deloitte. Together they outlined how they came to be in Guernsey, why the island appeared to be a strong option when making a relocation choice and what professional and personal life in Guernsey is like.

The Guernsey Showcase event also promoted Guernsey’s produce, as guests experienced a lunch menu incorporating many of the island’s high quality ingredients.

Deputy St Pier said, ‘Guernsey is able to provide stability for business in a time of uncertainty. We are in a prime position to provide a secure and stable environment for businesses looking for new opportunities.’

Richard Le Tocq, Head of Locate Guernsey, remarked, ‘Guernsey has a long history of innovation and has a broad range of global brands operating from its 24 square mile base. I am incredibly proud to have been able to promote this fact to such a broad audience.’

‘In addition to Guernsey being a favourable low tax jurisdiction, the island is a truly magnificent place to live and we hope this encourages others to adopt our wonderful lifestyle in the near future.’

The feedback received by the Locate Guernsey was uniformly positive and there’s already been considerable interest shown by businesses looking to book their place at the London Showcase event for 2017.

Corporate or personal relocators to the island, through job creation, the purchase and improvement of homes and participation in the economy all make a direct contribution to Guernsey’s financial well-being.
