Nerine Fiduciaries in Guernsey has been named as a Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) Platinum Training partner as part of the society’s Employer Partnership Programme. Nerine is only one of four Guernsey firms to be awarded this status.

Achieving the accreditation involved a rigorous application process led by business development executive Naro Zimmerman.

Nerine met all of the standards required by STEP at every level and demonstrated how the business intended to continue building on its learning and development programme. It also evidenced the firm’s learning and development training policy and the personal development training programme for each STEP member and student member of staff.

STEP representatives interviewed STEP student and trust administrator, Tom King, as a newly-qualified trust practitioner working with Nerine and client services director, David Morris, who started with Nerine as a trainee 19 years ago, as part of the accreditation process.

Nerine executive chairman, Keith Corbin, said: “Nerine has a global reputation for maintaining the highest fiduciary standards and ensuring we are training and nurturing talent at all levels of the business plays a significant role in this reputation.

“Our staff are a valued resource and we invest in them through structured internal and external training, funding and supporting STEP qualifications, mentoring and career progression.

Mr Zimmerman said: “Accreditation as a STEP platinum employer partner highlights our collective commitment to excellence in developing fully-rounded trust professionals and to serving our clients.”

Nerine plans on building on its training and development programme introducing more key performance indicators and streamlining its process to provide even greater levels of staff training support and will be seeking STEP platinum training partner status with its other offices in the British Virgin Islands, Geneva and Hong Kong.

STEP head of employer engagement, Jenni Hutchinson, said: “Nerine Trust has been awarded Platinum Training Partner status – the highest award available.

“This very well deserved accreditation was awarded upon demonstration of good practice against a range of quality standards in the training and development of STEP students and members, set and monitored by the STEP professional development team.

“Nerine demonstrated a planned, systematic and structured approach to learning and development with generous financial and practical support provided to enable staff to progress successfully through examinations and maintain professional currency beyond qualification.

“They also provide ample opportunity to apply learning to practice within a friendly and supportive environment under the watchful eye of a senior management team who are themselves generally STEP qualified.

“There is evidence of a strong learning culture championed by the chairman Keith Corbin who is a passionate advocate of embedding a learning culture within Nerine.”
