Ogier partner Marcus Leese will be among leading figures from the Hong Kong and Guernsey financial services sectors forming the panel at a launch event to mark the opening of a Guernsey representative office in Hong Kong tomorrow.

Marcus, who is based in Guernsey but spent four years in Ogier’s Hong Kong office, joins John Wong, Tax Partner and Hong Kong & China National Leader at PwC, and Andrew Chan, Head of Trust and Fiduciary Services for the Greater China region at Standard Chartered, William Mason, Director General of the Guernsey Financial Services Commission, and Mark Huntley, Managing Director of Heritage International Fund Managers.

The event will focus on the current economic climate and the services offered by Guernsey's international finance centre.

Marcus said: “I’m delighted to participate in the presentation panel and to support this excellent new initiative for Guernsey Finance.

“Both Ogier and I personally have had a long involvement with the Greater China region. Ogier has had offices in Hong Kong and Shanghai for many years from which we’ve been advising clients on Guernsey, BVI, Cayman, Jersey and Luxembourg law issues. I was based in our Hong Kong office for four years and have been visiting clients in the region for almost two decades.

“This new Hong Kong office for Guernsey Finance builds on the long-standing commitment of Guernsey to the development of links with the Greater China region through not only the Guernsey Finance office in Shanghai, but also the presence of many Guernsey businesses in the region (such as Ogier) and the regular visits of Guernsey business people and government and regulatory officials. The involvement of the Guernsey Financial Services Commission in the new Hong Kong office is also a very positive step in assisting potential clients have a better understanding of the opportunities available in the legal and regulatory landscape.”

The event will also include keynote speeches from the Lord Flight, a member of the House of Lords and a former UK MP and Shadow Cabinet Minister, and Lyndon Trott, Chairman of Guernsey Finance and former Chief Minister of Guernsey.

The Guernsey office, which is located at Three Pacific Place in Admiralty, will be run by Guernsey Finance. The office is the promotional agency's second overseas outpost, following its Shanghai office which opened in 2008.
