Population Employment Advisory Panel

A panel of industry experts will provide the Committee for Home Affairs with independent advice on policies relating to the granting of employment permits.

In its policy letter, published today, the Committee recommends that the States approves the membership of the new Population Employment Advisory Panel, which will provide industry experience and expertise to advise on labour and skills shortages in particular sectors of the economy. 

The recommended membership of the panel covers a wide range of employment sectors, including construction, E-industry, finance, health and education, tourism and hospitality and service industries and retail. 

The creation of this advisory group was approved by the States in 2013, when it was included in the former Policy Council’s wide-ranging report proposing the introduction of a population management regime. 

Deputy Mary Lowe, President of the Committee for Home Affairs, said the Committee believes that engaging with employers and industry representatives is a vital part of the new population management regime. 

‘The States have previously agreed that there should be an advisory panel to provide information about Guernsey’s business needs to the Committee. This will ensure that policies relating to employment permits are not made in a vacuum, but rather are made with reference to real-time information about Guernsey’s employment market. 

The recommended panel includes respected professionals who are well placed to provide evidence-based information that will assist the Committee when developing employment-related Population Management policies.’
