The Race is on to get your Mini Ducks

Hundreds of mini ducks will once again be on sale in town during the run up to this year’s Harbour Carnival, which takes place this year on Friday 22 July.

Organisers of the annual fund-raising event, the Guernsey Round Table, will be selling ducks outside Next in The Pollet on the four Saturdays leading up to Harbour Carnival. Mini ducks can be purchased starting from this Saturday 25 June and then 2, 9 and 16 July.

Justin Partington, President of Guernsey Round Table said: "From around 10am we’ll be selling the yellow mini ducks for a minimum donation of £2 each. People will then need to write their name and contact telephone number on the base of their duck with a permanent marker and leave it with us or bring it along by 5.15pm to the end of the Crown Pier where we’ll be putting them into a huge net which will raised up to a height of 3000m over the mouth of the harbour.

"They will be lowered into the mouth of the harbour and then the race is on for the first mini duck to reach the finishing line. That lucky mini duck will this year receive a £250 cash prize."

Lisa Barnett of RBC Wealth Management, long-term sponsors of the event said: "The sale of the mini ducks always signals Harbour Carnival is just around the corner. We’re really hoping as many as possible are sold so that this year’s main beneficiary, The Guernsey Sailing Trust, will receive the funds they need to upgrade their building, including installing a wheelchair ramp to provide access for their less able sailors. RBC employees themselves will be manning the mini duck stall during the lunchtime on Friday 22 July so we look forward to seeing you then!"
