Stockbroking and investment management company Ravenscroft is the world’s first financial services provider to register its image with the Intellectual Property Office to protect its name and logo from being misused.
The move follows the company’s rebrand last year after it became the only Channel Islands-based independent stockbroker and investment manager.
"Guernsey is a world leader in image rights and the island’s Intellectual Property Office has attracted interest from around the globe. Ravenscroft’s reputation is growing all of the time and so we felt the time was right to protect our image and demonstrate our support of an innovative industry sector. We are also extremely keen wherever appropriate to support local initiatives such as this one which was bought to us by Romanillos & Cook," said the Chief Executive, Jon Ravenscroft.
The Managing Director of Romanillos & Cook, Pepe Romanillos, which acted as agents for Ravenscroft, said the registration demonstrated that there was no limit on who could benefit.
"Image rights is a global business and Guernsey remains the only place in the world where organisations and individuals can protect their name, logo, strapline, voice, catchphrase or unique gesture," he said. "Our hope is that by attracting global names to register, there will be knock on benefits and opportunities to other sectors of industry including law, banking and wealth management."
