Friday 25th November 2016 As its main sponsor for eight years, RBS International has an enduring relationship with rugby for under 18s in Guernsey through the Guernsey Rugby Academy. This weekend we are happy to have the RBS 6 Nations Trophy visiting Island school children on Friday 25th November.

Hosted by La Mare de Carteret High School, the RBS 6 Nations Trophy will be centre of attention at a special multi-school assembly led by Seoirse Lee, Head of PE. Students from Le Murier School, St Sampson’s High School and La Mare de Carteret Primary School will also join the event.

Mr Lee will demonstrate how rugby and its core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship significantly help with school attendance, supporting individuals to maximise their educational performance.

Former students, who are playing senior rugby, will also attend to share with the young players what rugby has given to them: Rachel Merrien, who has played for Hampshire, London and the South East, currently plays for Trojans’ Ladies and is a familiar face in schools and at the Academy. Rachel trains boys and girls from age four to eighteen in her role as a Community Rugby Coach; Luke Jones former England u18 player and George Collenette, both of whom have both played professionally in the English Championship; and Layton Batiste who is a current first team player for Guernsey Raiders in London and South East National League Three will also be attending.

Sunday 27th November 2016

RBS International has been the Guernsey Rugby Academy’s main sponsor for eight years and in that time the Academy has grown from 150 members, more than doubling to over 300 this season.   Unlike any other Island sport, the Academy regularly competes in RFU Leagues and five year groups of boys and girls travel away to play up to ten fixtures each, every season.  The younger age groups, from age seven, will travel several times each year as well. Travel costs are significant for parents and carers and this is only affordable with the support of the Academy’s sponsors.

The Guernsey Rugby Academy trains on Sundays, 09:30-12:30, across all age groups at Les Ozouets Campus playing fields, and welcome players of all abilities, even those who have never played before.

This training supports the major inter-island festival held annually with the Jersey Rugby Academy, the Junior Siam, and we also work closely with schools to support the Lord Jersey Cup fixture each year in Jersey.

We are delighted to welcome the RBS 6 Nations Trophy and RBS International’s Senior Country Head, Rob Girard, to meet the squads on Sunday. Whilst not open to the public, we are delighted to invite local media to attend at 11am to watch presentations to the players and meet the Academy’s organising Committee and players.
