Guernsey Electricity’s retail manager, Phil Miles, will retire later this month after 43 years with the company.

Phil began his career at Guernsey Electricity in 1973 taking on the role of electrical apprentice working in domestic and commercial properties before moving into energy sales where he sold electric heating solutions.

He was then promoted into customer services where a management position saw him coordinating Guernsey Electricity’s company service standards.

In 2004 Phil became retail manager and over the past twelve years has overseen the showroom’s renovation and extension to meet with growing customer demand.

Mr Miles said: “I’m proud to have come from being an apprentice straight out of school all the way up to retail manager. I’ve had a lot of opportunities to progress so I feel very lucky to have worked at Guernsey Electricity. I’m going to miss the people most, both the staff and working with the public.”

Alan Bates, chief executive of Guernsey Electricity, said: “Phil has had a long and varied career at Guernsey Electricity and we’re incredibly grateful for his hard work over the years. Since Phil took over as retail manager in 2004 the showroom has gone from strength to strength.

“His decision to introduce TVs into the product range was a particular highlight and to this day they are still the most popular items in our showroom. Phil will be greatly missed and we wish him all the best for the future and a happy, well deserved retirement.”
