The Sancus BMS Group is pleased to announce that Matt Watson shall be joining their Guernsey office in the role of Managing Director from 1st July.
The Group is an alternative finance provider with offices in Jersey, Guernsey, Gibraltar, UK, Ireland and IOM*, specialising in secured lending. The Group is part of Guernsey based, AIM listed company, GLI Finance that owns a range of alternative finance platforms throughout the UK, Europe and USA.
Matt will be replacing Simon Brown in heading the operations in Guernsey, following Simon’s decision to take a career break. Matt will be performing a dual role across Amberton Asset Management and Sancus, and will be seeking to expand Sancus’ footprint in Guernsey, which is seen as an integral part of Sancus BMS’s Group strategy to have operations in key offshore financial jurisdictions.
He shall be responsible for increasing awareness of the Group’s asset based lending and working capital solutions throughout the island and developing close relationships with financial intermediaries and directly with borrowers and co-funders alike.
Matt was born and educated in Guernsey. After graduating from the University of East Anglia in 2006, he worked for Collins Stewart in London prior to moving back to the island to set up Spearpoint’s Guernsey office and stockbroking desk. He remained with the company following its purchase by Brooks Macdonald in 2012, becoming a Director with the newly formed company. Matt has held the position of Managing Director of Capital Markets at Amberton Asset Management since September 2016.
Matt comments, “I have seen the growth of Sancus over the last three years and I am very excited to be a part of an exciting group which has a clear edge in supporting locally based firms. We pride ourselves in making a difference within our home jurisdiction. We are a rapidly expanding business with a highly experienced credit team, which allows us to move quickly, underwriting loans and supporting SMEs and entrepreneurs when they see opportunities for growth.”
Andy Whelan, CEO of Sancus BMS Group says, “We are delighted to welcome Matt to the Sancus Group and very much looking forward to working further with him. Matt is well known to me and is connected and respected throughout the Guernsey business community, making a great addition to the team. We are sad to see Simon leave us and we wish him every success with his future ventures.”
