Stanley Gibbons Investment is to sponsor the 2016 Powerboat Series in Guernsey.
The Stanley Gibbons 2016 Powerboat Series starts this weekend with 10 races taking place throughout the summer.
This is the second year that Stanley Gibbons Investment has sponsored the series, cementing its position as one of the most exhilarating sporting events in the Channel Islands.
Powerboating is becoming increasingly popular since the World Championships returned to Guernsey a few years ago. Boats reach speeds of up to 75 miles an hour, watched by spectators in some of the island’s most picturesque coastal spots.
Keith Heddle, Managing Director, Stanley Gibbons Investments, said: “Sponsoring the Powerboat Series is a great way to get behind one of Guernsey’s fastest and most exciting sports.
“With its glorious coastline, Guernsey is the perfect setting for powerboating and we hope this year’s events mark the next step in an exhilarating future for the sport.”
Over 20 boats are set to take part in the races this year, including Gray Sea, a boat which is also sponsored by Stanley Gibbons, piloted by Kirsty Savident and Jaime Rive. Local boats will be joined for British National Championships in July by teams from Jersey and the UK.
Colin Clarke, Chairman, Guernsey Powerboating Association, said: “Thanks to sponsorship by Stanley Gibbons Investment, the Guernsey Powerboating Association is able to buy more of the equipment we require to make the events happen, and to reduce the entrance fees for competitors to enable more people to enjoy the sport.
“Last year’s events were a big success, and lots of new people are showing an interest in taking part this year. With the World Championships secured for 2017, we’re looking forward to a really good season.”
The Stanley Gibbons 2016 Powerboating Series start Saturday 28 May, with races from 11am at Havelet Bay.
