The value of internal communications and the risk to business of not considering its importance will be discussed at seminars in both Guernsey and Jersey being organised by the Channel Islands group of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR).

The group is bringing internal communications specialist Jenni Field to the islands to run the seminars which will look at the planning and management of an internal communication strategy, the fit between internal and external communication and the use of technology and social media.

‘Organisations need to communicate effectively with their employees but many often don’t, or do it badly. For companies and organisations in the Channel Islands, who are often part of a wider group, the challenge of ensuring employees are fully informed becomes even more complex,’ said chair of the Channel Islands group Mark Oliphant.

‘Without a clear internal communication strategy and plan, employees’ understanding of a company and its management, board, products and services, values and ethos will be distorted and this makes it very difficult for external communication to be effective. Research has also shown that higher levels of employee engagement can lead to increased productivity and lower turnover and absenteeism.’

Mrs Field is the chair of CIPR Inside, the group established to promote the value of internal communications, and was named as one of the Institute of Internal Communication’s 30 under 30 in 2012. She has more than a decade of experience in creating and implementing internal communication plans for global companies.

‘As a group dedicated to raising the professionalism of the communications industry in the Channel Islands, it’s vitally important that we bring over experts to run seminars on subjects which have real value,’ said Mr Oliphant.

‘Jenni is highly regarded and I’m sure the opportunity of hearing from someone of her calibre will appeal to those working within the communications industry and those in HR.’

The seminars cost £25 for CIPR members and £35 for non-members.

The Guernsey seminar takes place on Thursday 6th July from 8.30am – 11am at the Digital Greenhouse and can be booked through https://internal-comms-gsy.eventbrite.co.uk
