The Environment Department has announced that works to repair the damaged sea wall at Vazon, which was damaged in March, will start on Monday 21st July 2014.

The intention is that the works will be completed before the big tides in September but this is dependent on weather conditions.

The States Property Services Project Engineers will oversee the works by Geomarine Ltd. The works will include rebuilding the damaged section of wall with reinforced concrete and facing it in granite to match the existing wall.

The contractor’s equipment will be placed within compounds on the coast road and preparation work will commence in the previous week. Full traffic and pedestrian access along the coast road will be maintained throughout the works.

Deputy Yvonne Burford, Minister for the Environment Department, said, “The Board is pleased that the repair works will shortly be underway at Vazon. The Environment Department is working to ensure that these essential repairs cause as little inconvenience as possible to nearby properties and beach visitors.”

Almost all the work will be undertaken from within the site compound and the beach area immediately adjacent to the breach. It is intended that the movement of vehicles across the beach from the Richmond end of the bay will be minimal. Members of the public are asked to closely supervise children and dogs and to keep well clear of the repair works whilst in progress.
