£16k new website is "one-stop shop" for island's arts and culture

Wednesday 28 March 2018

Finding out about Jersey’s arts and heritage will now be easier thanks to Culture.je, a new website listing activities and organisations in the island, which launches today.

Developing the website cost around £16,000 and was funded by EDTSC.

Staff at Jersey Library will be responsible for updating the editorial content, which will include listings for events, contact details for the major cultural bodies, as well as information about grants and funding available to support local activity.

The website was launched as part of a collaboration between Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture and Jersey Library. Assistant Minister with responsibility for Culture, Deputy Murray Norton, commented: “The strength of our cultural life lies in its enormous variety but there is so much going on that it’s often difficult to know where to start looking for details.

“Culture.je provides a one-stop-shop that enables people not just to find out what’s going on but also to get more information to follow up their own specific interests. Many of our partner organisations have been calling for such a resource and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to provide it with the vital support of Jersey Library,” he said.

One of the key features of the site will be a directory section, which will allow clubs and societies to describe their groups and provide contact details for those seeking to join. Online templates will be available for clubs and societies to submit information to the editorial team at the Jersey Library.

Culture.je will also include a blog which allows subjects of general interest to be aired and views exchanged.

Assistant Education Minister Deputy Anne Pryke added: “The new website will complement the information available on gov.je and will make it easier for more people of all ages to find out more about culture and heritage. It is a welcome initiative.”
