"If I had got my sandwich I would have been on my way"

Friday 03 March 2023

A 42-year-old man has been fined £200 for being drunk and disorderly in town early in the afternoon — but said he "would have been on [his] way" if he'd have got his sandwich.

The Magistrate’s Court heard that Kelvin Monet was drunk in La Motte Street at 13:45 on Monday 20 February, and became disorderly outside a sandwich shop.

Police were called and St. Helier Centenier Danny Scaife, prosecuting, said: "When they attended they noted that Mr Monet appeared to be drunk.

"As they tried to move him away he refused to engage and shouted foul language."

Monet admitted the charge but told the court he had paid for a sandwich in the shop and said: "If I had got my sandwich I would have been on my way."

Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris allowed him to pay the fine at the rate of £50 per month and told him: "Please be careful about what you’re drinking and when."
