VIDEO: £750,000 games arcade opens on Saturday

It’s already looking good, but entrepreneur Jonathan Ruff says there’s still a lot of work to get done if his latest venture is to look as good as he wants it to when it opens at 11:00 on Saturday morning.

He’s spent more than £750,000 on transforming the old Liquid nightclub on the Waterfront next to CineWorld into a state-of-the-art games arcade.

Half a million pounds has gone on the games machines, and a quarter of a million pounds on transforming the building. There’s also the little matter of a 25-year lease.

But, Mr Ruff is confident the venture will be a success.

“Jersey used to have Funland [a games arcade on the Esplanade]”, he says. “That was 10 years ago, before I lived here. And I thought it was about time the Island had an arcade.”

He goes on to explain that with so many games on the market he had to carry out extensive research before deciding on which ones to go for, but that he eventually went for a mix of “games versus skill games."

Initially Tamba Park Arcade is going to be open seven days a week from 11:00 until 22:00, but that could change depending upon footfall.
