Jersey Police’s message to drivers to “slow down” seems to be being ignored.
A Freedom of Information question has revealed that in the past six months more than 100 drivers have been caught speeding - going more than 40 miles an hour.
One driver was clocked at doing more than 70 miles an hour.
In addition to the 100 drivers caught breaking the 40-mile-an-hour speed limit, another 200 were caught breaking the law in areas where the speed limit is even lower.
195 drivers were dealt with at parish hall enquiries, 16 at the Magistrate’s Court, and around 100 cases are still waiting to be heard.
The total amount of money generated from speeding fines so far this year is almost £20,500.
The reply to the question states none of the money raised goes to the police. Fines at parish hall level stay with the parish. Fines issued at the Magistrate or Youth Courts is forwarded to Her Majesty’s Receiver General.
