Ana Rebelo case five months on: Suspects reinterviewed

Thursday 24 August 2017

Police have reinterviewed the two suspects in the “complex” Ana Rebelo case, which now enters its fifth month.

Ana Pereira de Sousa Rebelo (51) was found dead in her Victoria Street home in early April. Police soon after confirmed that they were treating the case as a murder, and that she had died from “compression to the neck by a third party”.

In the months following, two suspects were arrested and interviewed – a 58-year-old man and a 25-year-old – but neither were charged.

Police confirmed today that both had returned for further interviews, and that the 58-year-old remains on police bail. The 25-year-old, however, has been released.

In a statement, the Police described the investigation as “complex” and maintained that they were “working closely with the Law Officer's Department.

They’re now in the process of preparing a file for consideration by the Department, but a decision is not expected “for a couple of months.”
