Another major apartment plan for north St Helier

Friday 03 April 2015

A new major development of 180 units is being planned on some disused warehouses in the north of town.

The new development on the former Play.com warehouse and adjacent buildings is at outline stage – so Planners are expected to give an in-principle view ahead of a full application.

The developers want to redevelop the site at the back of the Co-op Grand Marche to create 183 homes – mostly flats, but with some houses – as well as four commercial units, a community facility and 200 parking spaces.

The development proposals come just weeks after plans for almost 300 homes on the neighbouring Jersey Gas site were approved despite protests by residents and politicians.

Environment Minister Steve Luce approved the development of up to 285 homes on the site in Tunnell Street, with Planning acknowledging the potential problems, but saying that the development would create “vibrant housing” and remove a potentially hazardous commercial use” from the area.
