The 13th Parish Festival is offering a cinematic 'Taster Day' tonight, providing a sneak peek into the diverse array of films that will be showcased during the main festival next year.

The 13th Parish Festival is offering a cinematic 'Taster Day' at the Jersey Arts Centre on Friday 13 October, providing a sneak peek into the diverse array of films that will be showcased during the main festival in May 2024.
The day will begin with two screenings catering to young audiences with animation film 'The Song of the Sea' and a new documentary titled 'The Nettle Dress'. For school groups interested in attending, bookings and further information can be obtained through the Jersey Arts Centre HERE.
In the early evening, there will be a screening of the Portuguese documentary 'Silêncio - Voices of Lisbon', which explores the roots of Fado music, highlighting the threats it faces due to tourism and gentrification in Lisbon. It is presented in Portuguese with English subtitles.
The Taster Day concludes with 'Award-Winning Shorts', a selection of international short films. This collection includes a variety of styles, from humorous animation in 'Grandad Was a Romantic', to a celebration of classic motorcycles in 'Ride', and an emotionally-charged family story in 'An Irish Goodbye' – an Academy Award and BAFTA winner for Best Short Film in 2023.
Tony Langlois, Festival Director, said: “The day may be a ‘taster’ but it’s a feast for film fans and filmmakers. We hope it will whet your appetite for our main event from 23rd-26th May next year."

The Antigua and Barbuda Youth Symphony Orchestra (ABYSO) is set to deliver a combined orchestra performance this month in collaboration with the Jersey Symphony Orchestra.
Organised by Jersey Music Service in collaboration with the Jersey Symphony Orchestra, this event is part of celebrations coinciding with the visit of a delegation from Antigua and Barbuda to promote a strong relationship between the islands.
Dr Graham Cox, Principal of the Jersey Music Service, said: "This will provide the opportunity for young musicians on the island to come together to collaborate with those visiting and actively participate in this cultural exchange, which we hope to continue through a reciprocal visit currently being planned.”

Maison de la Normandie et de la Manche, an organisation that links Jersey and Normandy, will be hosting a food and drink event to celebrates World Calvados Day.
The event will be hosted in David Hick Interiors where visitors can enjoy Calvados and apple-based drinks, along with nibbles courtesy of Maison de la Normandie.
Ganache, Bruno's Bakery, Cocorico and Beresford Street Kitchen will also be providing food, with donations going toward the latter.
A static display of the All-New Renault Austral E-Tech Full Hybrid SUV will also be showcased, courtesy of Bagot Road Garage Ltd.
The event will be held in David Hick Interiors in St Lawrence between 10:00 and 19:00 on Friday 20 October.

Jersey Youth Performing Arts is hosting what they believe to be "Jersey's first relaxed theatre performance" during the October half term.
The "fully inclusive theatre company" are putting on a production of Disney's 'Frozen' which will "offer additional support for those who may struggle to access a regular theatre experience".
The performance will include a designated quiet area where those watching can take some time out if needed.
"It’s an ever-increasing opportunity across London theatres and we are so excited to be able to offer this in Jersey, " said Adelina d'Orleans, the Vice Chair of JYPA.
"I have been in contact with Autism Jersey, Mencap, Jersey Youth Service, and BSK among others to offer our relaxed performance to them."
Adelina added that the JYPA "strongly believes that theatre should be accessible to as many people as possible" so JYPA will not be charging for tickets to the relaxed performance.
"Any donations to our JYPA charity will be greatly appreciated but we don't want ticket costs to be a barrier to attending," she explained.
"This means we can open our offer to adults and young people with additional needs and their families who may not often get this opportunity."

A new exhibition that showcases body casts from 15 islanders affected by breast cancer has opened in town.
‘This is Me’, which runs until 30 October, encourages islanders to 'Touch, Look, Check’ their breasts for lumps, swelling or rashes which could be a sign of cancer.
Sponsored by Marks and Spencer, the casts will be featured in their King Street shop windows and the store's lingerie department and fitting rooms.
The exhibition marks 'Pink Month' or Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and is organised by ABC Jersey – a local charity building 'A Brighter Community' for islanders living with the disease.
Fiona Robson, the charity's chair, said: "Each of these women have faced their diagnosis at different moments, undergone varied treatments, and battled diverse stages of this disease.
"Their collective message? Early detection is paramount."
The handcrafted casts have been created in collaboration with Nicole Le Cornu of Love Casting.
Mind Jersey, in collaboration with Dunell's and Midnight, is set to host a charity event that combines art, wine, and food.
Attendees will taste different wines and match them with artwork, followed by a three-course dinner that complements the drinks.
The artworks will be auctioned to raise funds for Mind Jersey, and Mind Jersey musicians will also deliver a live performance.
Dr Patricia Tumelty, Executive Director Mind Jersey, urged people to attend the evening, explaining: “Emotional and financial security are the bedrocks of good mental health – both have been shattered by the pandemic and inflation – as we go into winter months, please help Mind Jersey help more people to reconnect with hope and save lives."
Tickets are £130 per person and the event will be held at the Pomme d’Or Hotel on Thursday 19 October from 18:30 until 22:30.

Jersey Post has released a new stamp collection that celebrates 50 Years of the World Rally Championship and the Jersey Rally at 40.
The stamps feature iconic cars from throughout the championship’s history, with dynamic illustrations by Keith Burns.
The miniature sheet depicts the distinctive orange Ford Escort Mk. 2 belonging to Dave Carrel, who in 1984 was the first islander to win the Jersey Rally.
These products are available for purchase at the Broad Street and Rue Des Pres post offices, as well as online HERE.
On 14 October 14, a classical music event will take place at the St Helier Methodist Centre featuring world-renowned cellist Natalie Clein and the Jersey Chamber Orchestra.
Natalie will showcase her exceptional talent with performances of Haydn's Cello Concerto No. 1 and Faure's Elegie.
The orchestra, conducted by Eamonn Dougan, will perform Beethoven's 7th Symphony and Cecilia McDowall's modern composition, 'Rain Steam and Speed'.
The evening will be in support of Music in Action's charitable work, which creates opportunities for people from all backgrounds and of all ages to interact with musical experiences that inspire, educate, and support wellbeing.

CCA Galleries has announced a new exhibition at the gallery featuring a new series of paintings and etchings by artist Tim Le Breuilly, a recipient of the 2022 Jersey Summer Exhibition Prize.
Taking inspiration from real, imagined or local places, Tim's new works assimilate human emotion, memory and personal experience into landscapes and seascapes.
The compositions he portrays may be drawn from the real world, harkening back to familiar locations or distant travel destinations, or they might be born from the depths of his imagination, materialised into existence to encapsulate the essence of a feeling.
Regardless of their origin, these landscapes become a blank canvas for the viewer's own imagination, allowing them to wander through the artist's emotional terrain.
