ART FIX: Last weekend(er) of summer

Friday 30 August 2024

There's only one weekend left of summer but it's not all doom and gloom – this weekend, islanders are being invited to dance their way into September.

Every weekend, Express presents a selection of exhibitions, performances, workshops, events and other historic, creative and delicious content to help islanders get their weekly dose of culture.

Here's this week's offering...

Weekender

Scottish rock band Texas and international British pop singer Tom Grennan will be headlining Weekender 2024 which brings its biggest line-up ever to the more central location of People's Park this year. 70s icons Sister Sledge, Jamie Webster, Circa Waves and The Zutons will also head to the Main Stage over the 31 August and 1 September as well as a host of local acts, who will shine on the Mailmate Made in Jersey stage.

The brand new Greenhouse Stage will also delight DnB and House music fans over the weekend.

It might be the last event of the summer holidays but with a mixed line-up, usual dance tents, fairground rides and food arena, there's still plenty to be excited about.

Gates open each day at 14:00 and will close at 23:00 on Saturday 31 and at 22:30 on Sunday 1 September.

Rainbows and butterflies in the woods

Join family nature play centre Nature Base in a butterfly and rainbows craft session at St Saviour's Woodland base this Saturday (31 August).

Expect to use paint and natural resources to create butterfly wings or you could try rainbow weaving and sensory play in the woods.

The session is designed for early years and primary school age children and will run from 10:00 until 11:30.

More information about Nature Base and tickets for this session can be found on their website HERE.

Nova Movando

Head to the Watersplash tonight or Saturday (31 August) to witness a unique immersive performance from local dance company Ballet d'Jèrri.

Nova Movando blends choreography by Yamuna Kyamo Huygen with live music from Minihi and will transform the St Ouen space into a unique night out with breathtaking views.

The event is being supported by techinicians from the Jersey Opera House and the performance will start at 20:00 on both evenings and will intersperse throughout the night until 22:15.

More information can be found HERE.

Bienvenue!

Alliance Française in Jersey is kicking off its new year of classes with an Open Day this Saturday.

The French school offers a wide range of classes for all levels, including group classes, corporate and private tuition. This year, they will also be facilitating a new class for children aged 4+.

The Open Day will be at the centre at 5 Library Place in St Helier and will be a chance for the public to learn about classes on offer and the benefits of learning the French language and culture in Jersey.

Free refreshments will be served throughout the day and anyone can attend between 10:00 and 16:00.

Wildlife Photographer Exhibition

Starting this Saturday, Jersey Zoo will be showcasing some of the world's best wildlife photography from the international Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. Work from acclaimed photographers will be on show, all of which have been developed and produced by London's Natural History Museum.

The exhibition is taking place at the Durrell Discovery Centre, which can be visited from 10:00 and 17:00 every day. Normal zoo admission applies, with members going free.
