Hotel worker Sergio Antonio Keller has been banned from driving for 18 months and given a 70-hour community service order after admitting he was over twice the drink driving limit.
The 22-year-old, who moved to Jersey in March from Germany to work during the summer season at the Atlantic Hotel, St Brelade, was stopped by police officers in the early hours of April 23.
Prosecuting Centenier Phillip Coffey said: “Police officers on duty in a marked car in Broad Street began travelling behind Keller’s vehicle and both officers remarked how slow the car was being driven. It then started swerving from one side of the road to another.
“The officers stopped the car at Charing Cross and smelt intoxicating liqueur on the driver’s breath so requested a sample to indicate excess alcohol in his system. The reading was 78 micrograms of alcohol for every 100 millilitres of breath.”
Keller was told he will have to re-take his driving test at the end of his 18-month ban before he is allowed to drive again in Jersey.
