Beach festival looking for volunteers

Wednesday 16 August 2017

St Brelade’s Bay Festival is back for its second year and organisers are on the lookout for volunteers.

The organisers are calling for islanders to get involved to support the free beach festival as it enters into its second year.

Deputy Montfort Tadier, one of the festival’s co-organisers said: “We do not currently receive any funding, so we are always grateful for volunteers.

“We would especially like to hear from anyone who might be able to loan us a generator and a marquee for the music.”

Speaking about the event’s growing success, Deputy Tadier said: “Despite the inclement weather last year, the event was successful and we managed to put on a full programme of activities, sports and live music. With a little help from the sunshine, we are hoping that this year’s festival will be even better.

“It is important to us that the event is non-commercial, as far as possible. The real ethos is to get people out there, enjoying the natural beauty of the bay, trying their hand at new sports, enjoying the sea, listening to local bands and using the pre-existing amenities. We hope it will be a fun day out for families, tourists and locals alike.”

The free event will be taking place in the bay on 3 September from 10:30 until 19:00. The organisers have asked that people travelling in to enjoy the festival use public transport or cycle where possible, but the regular paid parking will be available in the bay.

To get involved, contact Jono Steventon on 07797 717564 or via the festival’s Facebook page.
