Bold new look for Normans

Friday 06 June 2014

It’s already one of the most striking-looking buildings in town but it’s about to get a major makeover this weekend.

A large mural is going to be painted over the bright yellow facade of Normans in Commercial Buildings as a curtain raiser for Skipton Open Studios 2014.

Artists from Jersey are teaming up with two UK artists who worked on the London Olympic Park and the V&A on the project which starts tonight, and which has to be finished by 8.30 pm on Sunday evening.

Anna Frances Le Moine and Matt Daly from Jersey will be joining forces with The Pen Pushers – Bob Motown and Nick Marsh – to create the mural.

Sasha Gibb, the Jersey Arts Trust Visual Arts Co-ordinator, thanked Normans for getting involved in the project.

She said: “The principal role of the visual artist is to encourage us to look at life differently. Normans Commercial Buildings has a rendered façade that has always been painted. Although we are only adding another layer of paint, the result will be fantastic.”

Normans Trading Director Nigel Quérée said: "Normans are delighted to be able to support the Jersey Arts Trust.  The prospect of a temporary mural on our building is an exciting way to launch this year’s events."
