Brazilian Power Team wins gold at international competition

Sunday 29 October 2017

The Brazilian Power Team took home nine medals, including three gold ones, from the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) London Fall competition earlier this month.

Professor and Head Coach Vladimiro Afonso won two golds and 2 bronzes, Eduardo Afonso two silvers and two bronzes and Hugh Mcmillan one Gold at the two-day event.

Seven athletes from BPT Jersey, Charles Tromans, Joao Sousa, William Moir, Tom Beadle, travelled with Vladimiro, Eduardo and Hugh to the UK to take part in the prestigious competition,

This first competitive weekend, which took place at Crystal Palace on 14 and 15 October, marked the beginning of a "high-pressure competitive season" for the team. Luckily, they get off to the right start as Professor and Head Coach Vladimiro Afonso said.

"I am so proud of the team. This was the first competition of the season, for some their first competition ever! The whole team trained hard, improved their fitness and performed very well - but the show was stolen by Hugh Mcmillan who won a Gold medal in his category, and was then awarded a blue belt for his efforts. Well done Hugh!"
